April Fool

by kdillmanjones

It was our last day
And we didn’t know.
We didn’t listen to the sparrow
Or graze a tulip.
We argued.
Snow swirled around us
As only April could allow.
I was aloof,
an April fool.
So smug,
So glued to my Broadway tunes.
I could blame you too,
So stuck on a Po’ Boy.
And now we pause,
We watch
And cannot intervene.
We weep for April’s fools.
It all slips away so easily.
